Offer to help another parent by caring for their child

Everyone can support and build assets with children. Offering to watch a child so the parent can rest allows the parent to be more relaxed to deal calmly with the daily challenges of parenting. When you support a parent or caregiver, you support their child. You can even help an exasperated parent of a toddler who is acting up in the grocery store by getting down to the child’s eye level and distracting the child. When we take care of our parents, we do take care of our children. The Building Strong Families poll, 2003, found that parents often “go it alone.” That is, they do not regularly seek support from family, friends, or community resources. However, research shows that having a network of support helps to strengthen families, and having support from others is associated with positive outcomes for both parents and children. http://www.search-institute.org/content/research-insights-families
